In October 2016, I began visiting the Concord, N.H. mosque to learn what American Muslims thought about the presidential election as then-candidate Donald Trump proposed policies like banning Muslims from entering the United States (a version of which his administration did put into place). I returned several times for different stories for the Concord Monitor, and starting in January 2017, I followed some individuals as they went about their daily lives: work, an interfaith council meeting, a lunch break and a naturalization ceremony.
The project, titled "Beyond the Mosque," is a look at how Islam both separates and connects individuals to this small, homogenous, New England community. I wrote about the experience of producing this work, too.
