Amazing Maine

In July and August, I escaped to both Long Island, ME and Acadia National Park for mini-vacations with my family and Adron. Both were starkly different and beautiful - I'll let the photos speak for themselves.

24 hours in Long Island.

A weekend in Acadia, with quick stops in Kennebunkport and York.

Franklin

For the past 8 months, I've settled into my new beats at the Monitor, including covering the city of Franklin. The smallest city and one of the poorest in New Hampshire, it's a place full of challenges but also hope. The most recent story I did, about a massive, what some consider unrealistic, vision of a downtown revitalization, was perhaps the most optimistic article I've written since coming here. There's real change happening.

I've been photographing there as much as possible, including a New Year's Day whitewater rafting event and in May, a three-part series called "Focus on Franklin." I spent a week or so talking to and photographing as many people as possible in the city. I asked them what they thought about their city - what's good, and what could be better.

Here's a taste of what I've seen there so far:

Summer fun

I've been dying to post summer photos - here they are, finally! Starting with a trip to Amherst College (my alma mater) in late May and finishing up with a hike up Mt. Kinsman earlier this week, it's been a summer of mini-trips and small moments.

Some old stuff in a new space

You don't want to let your bread get stale, or your photo portfolio.

Or so they say (?). Wordpress was a fabulous place to start, but after hearing about Squarespace on Serial so many times, I finally gave in. You'll see some portfolio oldies/goodies on here, as well as a number of new photos sprinkled in from my eight months so far at the Concord Monitor (plus some personal adventures in-between).
